MAPPA Policies
Intern Policy
In an effort to encourage legal interns and law students to consider a career in Chapter 32 retirement law, MAPPA has determined that these individuals can obtain official membership in MAPPA despite not being licensed to practice law.
In order for a legal intern or law student to join MAPPA, they must be currently employed at a Chapter 32 retirement system or at a law firm that represents a Chapter 32 retirement system. The retirement system and law firm must be current members of MAPPA.
To seek membership, the entity sponsoring the legal intern or law student will submit to MAPPA the resumes of the individuals. After reviewing the resumes, MAPPA membership will vote on whether to allow the individuals to join as members.
The legal interns and law students will remain members of MAPPA until they leave employment with the sponsoring entity. The legal interns and law students will not have voting power.
The sponsoring entity will be responsible for paying the membership dues for the legal interns and law students. The dues will be $75 per entity that will cover up to five (5) legal interns or law students per fiscal year.
This policy is subject to change at any time following a discussion and vote of the membership.
